Whidbey singer-songwriter Celia Farran has created a compilation album celebrating the Gaelic harvest festival of Samhain and Halloween. The album includes 31 songs, one for each day of October, covering topics such as witches, ravens, the moon and communicating with ancestors. Farran compiled the album in 2024, pulling together pre-existing songs centered on these themes as well as some that were recorded specifically for the album. She was inspired to create the album after realizing she had enough songs that fit this theme to create an entire album. The album marks the spooky season with a collection of 31 songs that reflect the mystical magicalness of the time.
Farran will be performing some of the songs from her “Samhain/Halloween” album as well as emceeing at LittleBIGFest’s Creepy Cabaret, which will be held from 6-10 p.m. on Oct. 31 at Royal Alvin Hall in Freeland. The event also functions as a fundraiser, with proceeds going towards funding future concerts hosted by LittleBIGFest. Farran has been labeled as a pagan musician, but she personally does not subscribe to such labels, instead seeing herself as an artist who will “write about anything and everything.” Still, paganism along with her Irish background have shaped her approach to music and the themes she tends to cover in her songs.
Farran wears many hats as a creative, including vocal instructor, comedian and LittleBIGFest emcee. But one thing remains ever-constant for her, and that is her love of music. Her Celtic roots and passion for song have even led Farran to create a compilation album celebrating the Gaelic harvest festival of Samhain and Halloween in honor of the spooky season.
While she has been labeled as a pagan musician, Farran noted that she personally does not subscribe to such labels, instead seeing herself as an artist who will “write about anything and everything.” Still, paganism along with her Irish background have shaped her approach to music and the themes she tends to cover in her songs.
