State Route 167 serves as a primary artery connecting Auburn to the surrounding Puget Sound region, making morning commutes highly sensitive to roadway closures. On Friday, that route was blocked for a significant portion of the early morning after a deadly multi-vehicle accident.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Rick Johnson issued an alert at 2:25 a.m. reporting that southbound lanes at 15th Street Northwest were closed due to a three-car crash involving a fatality. Johnson described the situation as an extended closure, noting that crews were working to turn around vehicles stuck in the bottleneck only when it was safe to do so.

More than an hour after the initial alert, investigators confirmed that one driver had died at the scene. A second driver was taken into custody on suspicion of impairment and is now facing vehicular homicide charges. The arrest followed a standard investigative procedure for fatal collisions in the region.

Traffic control measures diverted vehicles away from the closed section of the highway. Authorities directed drivers to use 15th Street Northwest to navigate through Auburn and continue their journeys. No estimated time for the roadway to reopen was provided in the immediate aftermath.

Investigations into deadly crashes of this nature typically require several hours to complete, according to local traffic reporting standards. The Washington State Patrol managed the scene and the subsequent arrests, providing the primary information regarding the status of the road and the condition of the individuals involved.
