Milton residents will participate in three distinct memorial ceremonies in November, each tied to a specific local landmark. The community has already begun its annual poppy campaign, which launched on Oct. 24. Boxes for donations are currently available at various businesses across the town.
The first event occurs on Sunday, Nov. 1, at the Soldiers’ Memorial in Haltonville. A parade begins at 1:45 p.m., marching from Amos Drive to the Haltonville Cenotaph along 15 Side Road. Participants will lay a wreath at the monument located at the intersection of Guelph Line and 15 Side Road.
On Sunday, Nov. 8, a service is scheduled at the Victoria Park Cenotaph in downtown Milton. The procession starts at 1:30 p.m. from the Milton branch of the Royal Canadian Legion and proceeds to the park. This gathering is expected to be the final service held at the current site before a planned upgrade. Officials have approved a new $40,000 veterans’ monument to be installed alongside the existing cenotaph, with construction slated for completion in 2027. Refreshments will be served in the legion club room after the ceremony.
The traditional Remembrance Day Parade takes place on Wednesday, Nov. 11. The event begins at 10:45 a.m. at Milton Evergreen Cemetery, where the group marches to the cenotaph. Organizers advise attendees to arrive early, as parking near the cemetery can be difficult close to the start time.
A Veterans’ Luncheon follows the morning service at the legion banquet hall. Doors open at noon, and the meal is served at 1 p.m. Tickets are currently on sale in the legion club room for $15 per person. Sales close on Nov. 1.
