Seahawks Trade for All-Pro Guard Quenton Nelson in Midseason Move
Seattle acquired the three-time All-Pro on Tuesday in exchange for two future draft picks, with the new addition expected to start immediately against the Bears.

Quenton Nelson spent the last eight seasons anchoring the offensive line for the Indianapolis Colts before agreeing to a trade to the Seattle Seahawks. The move marks the latest aggressive acquisition by Seattle general manager John Schneider, who has secured a major midseason talent boost in four consecutive years.
The Seahawks acquired Nelson on Tuesday in exchange for a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth-round pick. This transaction follows similar deadline moves by Schneider, who previously traded for defensive tackle Leonard Williams in 2023, linebacker Ernest Jones IV in 2024, and wide receiver Rashid Shaheed in 2025.
Nelson arrived in Renton, Washington, on Wednesday and described the transition as bittersweet after leaving a community where he formed strong relationships. He expressed enthusiasm for the natural setting and the welcoming nature of his new teammates and coaches during his first day and a half in Seattle.
"Formed a lot of great relationships in Indy," Nelson said. "Great community there, but definitely excited for this next chapter. Being here in Seattle, driving in and then the couple times I've played here, it's a beautiful state, a cool city."
Head coach Mike Macdonald indicated that Nelson is expected to make his debut Monday night against the Chicago Bears. The veteran guard will slot into the left guard position, a spot that forces a reshuffling of the existing offensive line personnel.
With Nelson entering the starting lineup, Grey Zabel will move to right guard. Anthony Bradford, who returned from a month on injured reserve to help secure a 20-3 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs last Sunday, will move to a backup role despite his strong recent performance.
Macdonald acknowledged the difficulty of replacing a player who had just contributed to a 410-yard offensive output, including 153 rushing yards and a 100-yard, one-touchdown performance by Emanuel Wilson. The coach emphasized that the addition of a potential Hall of Famer improves the team's overall depth and physicality.
"We love our guys," Macdonald said. "It's a situation where you understand how it affects the guys that have been here and working really hard and have earned a great role on our team. But also, you know, two things can be true at the same time."
The offensive line will feature three new starters compared to last week's game. In addition to Nelson and Zabel, Josh Jones will start at tackle in place of Charles Cross, who is likely to miss time with an ankle sprain.
Nelson is working to learn Seattle's specific offensive system, which differs significantly from his previous experience due to the team's frequent use of a fullback. Center Jalen Sundell stayed late in the facility on Wednesday to help Nelson with terminology and protection schemes ahead of Monday's game.
"It's completely different," Nelson said. "But I've got great people around me, helping me out, between JB and Q, and then also the players in the offensive line room. Everyone's super welcoming, and they understand that this is a whirlwind situation for me."
