Christian Mbilli defends his WBC super middleweight title against Saul Alvarez on Saturday. The 29-year-old champion enters the bout with an undefeated professional record, but betting markets favor the veteran challenger.

Mbilli secured the full title following Alvarez's September 2025 loss to Terence Crawford. Crawford retired after that victory, prompting the promotion of Mbilli from interim champion to full titleholder. Mbilli had won the interim belt in June 2025 by stopping Maciej Sulecki in the first round. His final fight before the promotion resulted in a split draw with Lester Martinez.

The champion fights as a high-pressure bruiser. Twenty-four of his 29 career victories have come by knockout. His strategy involves driving opponents to the ropes and landing heavy right hands to the head while working the body with left hooks. He finished Mark Heffron with a body shot in 40 seconds. His style leaves little room for comfort for the opponent.

This aggressive approach carries risks. In the draw with Martinez, Mbilli built a strong early lead but faded over ten rounds. Over his last five fights, he threw 78 punches per round, with 58 being power shots. That volume is double the super middleweight average. The high output can wear down a fighter's stamina in longer bouts.

Alvarez has gone eight fights without a stoppage, a trend that has raised questions about his current power. However, analysts note he retains enough punch to hurt any opponent he lands cleanly on. Mbilli enters the fight as a +250 underdog, a line closer than previous matchups would have drawn.

Terence Crawford told DAZN that Mbilli's style is tailor-made for the matchup. Crawford said he does not see Mbilli winning a traditional boxing match. Instead, he believes Mbilli's best chance lies in letting his hands go, roughing Alvarez up, and making it a dogfight.
