Commuters heading south on Interstate 405 through Bothell will lose all travel lanes this weekend. The Washington State Department of Transportation will shut down the interstate from state Route 527 to state Route 522 starting at 10 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30. Traffic will resume at 4 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 2. This creates a 54-hour window of complete southbound disruption during the Halloween weekend.

Work crews will remove a section of the pedestrian bridge at the Canyon Park Park and Ride site. This action is part of the I-405/Brickyard to SR 527 Improvement Project. The bridge closure begins at 12:01 a.m. on the same Friday. Pedestrians will not be able to use the crossing until a new structure opens in 2028.

The southbound closure is only the first phase of a larger schedule. WSDOT announced that northbound lanes will face a similar full closure from Nov. 6 through Nov. 9. During that following weekend, workers will remove a portion of the northbound pedestrian bridge. Drivers in that direction will need to find alternate routes for those four days.

The state department has released these timelines to give travelers specific dates for planning. The closure dates fall squarely within the holiday travel period. WSDOT advises the public to check its website for the latest updates on detours and project status.
