Washington state residents will see the sun set before 5 p.m. starting Sunday, Nov. 1. The change coincides with the end of daylight saving time, when clocks roll back from 2 a.m. to 1 a.m. That adjustment follows the first Halloween falling on a Saturday since 2020.

According to sunrise-sunset.org, the sun will set at approximately 4:51 p.m. on Nov. 1. The last light of day will fade around 5:23 p.m. Sunset times will continue to move earlier as the month progresses. By early December, the sun will set around 4:17 p.m. on some evenings.

The shift brings an extra hour of sleep for residents through the winter months. However, afternoons will grow darker until the next clock change. The sun will not set after 5 p.m. again until late January. It will not set after 6 p.m. until early March.

Daylight saving time will resume on March 14, 2027. Until then, Washingtonians will experience shorter daylight hours as the season transitions from fall to winter. The calendar marks the start of what many locals refer to as the big dark.

The next major change to daily schedules is scheduled for Nov. 1. No other time changes are planned before the spring reset in 2027. Residents can track specific sunset times for their location using the data from sunrise-sunset.org.
