Manchester United fans booed the club's owners and executive leadership after the team lost 3-0 to AFC Bournemouth on Sunday. The result marked the third time in two years that Bournemouth has beaten United at Old Trafford, with all three victories coming by a score of 3-0.

The crowd directed their frustration at the Glazer family and the INEOS Group, which took control of football operations in February 2024. Sir Jim Ratcliffe invested approximately $1.6 billion to acquire a quarter stake in the club. Since taking charge, the sporting hierarchy has dismissed three managers: Erik ten Hag, Ruben Amorim, and now Michael Carrick. The current manager, Carrick, was appointed after United finished in third place and qualified for the Champions League in the previous season.

Harry Maguire, a defender who has remained in the starting lineup since the 2022-2023 season, criticized the team's performance in a post-match interview. He stated that the current standard was "nowhere near good enough" and that changes were necessary. The defense has faced scrutiny after conceding more goals than their expected goals value would suggest, despite a goal difference that is technically negative by only one point in the current standings.

The club's recent transfer activity has drawn specific criticism. Sporting director Jason Wilcox spent nearly $200 million on midfield players during the 2025 summer window, including Youri Tielemans, Andrey Santos, and Carlos Baleba. The left-back position was left unaddressed during that spending period. United currently sit 16th in the Premier League table, one point above the relegation zone. In the two and a half years under INEOS oversight, the club has ranked ninth in the league for points and 10th for expected goal difference.

The Glazer family has held a majority ownership interest in the club for more than two decades. Their initial acquisition was funded by loading debt onto the club's balance sheet. Since then, the Glazers have been criticized for a steady decline in the club's competitive standing relative to other major English teams. The current ownership structure involves a minority stake for Ratcliffe, who has stated the club must stick to a defined path in modern football.
