A long-standing Portland snack shop is relocating to a shopping center in Washington County. Joe Brown's Carmel Corn is opening a new site in Washington Square mall on Friday, October 30.

The business will begin serving customers at 10 a.m. on the second floor food court at 9585 S.W. Washington Square Road. The menu includes popcorn, cookies, banana pudding, cheesecake, and caramel apples. This move marks the end of a tenure that spanned more than sixty years in the Lloyd Center.

The new location will feature specific popcorn varieties such as Carmel corn, cheddar cheese, white cheddar, and kettle corn. It will also serve an Oregon-style popcorn that blends Carmel and yellow cheese flavors. The shop is preparing for a grand opening event to welcome the new neighborhood.

The company stated in a release that it has been creating sweet memories for generations of Portland families since 1932. Management expressed excitement about continuing that tradition in the new home. The move follows the permanent closure of its previous building.

Joe Brown's Carmel Corn first opened in 1932 and had three locations in Portland by the mid-1930s. World War II forced closures in the 1940s, but the business reemerged in 1960 in the Lloyd Center. It eventually became the longest-tenured tenant at the mall in northeast Portland, which closed on August 8.
