Hasan Piker mocked injured Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents during a campaign event in Minneapolis on Monday night. The streamer, who hosts a show on Twitch, spoke to a sold-out crowd alongside Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn. He recalled his time in Minnesota during federal immigration enforcement operations.
Piker stated he believed agents were "extra racist" for working in frigid winter temperatures. He described video clips of officers sustaining injuries as "funny compilations." He specifically mentioned a video of an officer falling, saying, "Officer Martinez down." The crowd laughed in response to his remarks.
A Department of Homeland Security spokesperson linked the "vilification" of agents to a more than 1,600% increase in assaults against them. The spokesperson told Fox News Digital that ICE agents put their lives on the line daily. They noted that agents take required steps to determine immigration status before making an arrest. The office urged politicians to lower the temperature of their rhetoric.
Rep. Angie Craig and Sen. Amy Klobuchar, both D-Minn., publicly condemned Piker's comments. Other Minnesota Democrats called for the event to be canceled. The midterm elections are scheduled for next week. Omar's campaign defended her attendance, citing a need to mobilize young voters.
Omar is currently facing her own controversy. Homeland Security Investigations agents searched her Washington, D.C., home earlier this month. A federal court filing identified her as "Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, aka Ilhan Abdullahi Omar." Piker has become a polarizing figure within the Democratic Party. He has previously claimed that "America deserved 9/11" and faced accusations of antisemitism regarding his remarks on Israel and Hamas.
During the event, Piker told his co-host Omar Fateh, a failed Minneapolis mayoral candidate, that he was inspired by the "solidarity" and "mutual aid" seen during the deployment of federal agents. He noted that protests resulted in multiple arrests and the disruption of a church service. Two U.S. citizens, Renee Good and Alex Pretti, were killed during interactions with federal law enforcement.
Conservatives on social media quickly criticized Piker. Andrew Kolvet, executive producer of The Charlie Kirk Show, posted on X that the comments were "tacit support for the far-left insurrection network." Gina Milan, a media personality, described Piker as "America's biggest cancer." Kevin Smith, host of Loud Majority Live, called him a "Nepo baby."
Omar is running for re-election in Minnesota's 5th Congressional District. She faces former state trooper John Nagel and independent candidate DeVelle Jackson in the upcoming midterm elections. Fox News Digital reached out to Piker and Omar for comment.
